The Board published a report entitled ‘Special Savings for Retirement’ on 5 July 2006, at the request of the Minister for Social and Family Affairs to explore the general principles in relation to a mandatory or quasi-mandatory pension system with a view to recommending the most appropriate system for Ireland at a practical level.

The Board published a report entitled National Pensions Policy Initiative (NPPI) in May 1998, at the request of the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs, which contains the Board’s assessment of the current situation regarding pension provision in Ireland. It sets out a strategy for future development, and it contains a number of major proposals and recommendations for change to give effect to the strategy.
